Why trees, why now
Somalia has lost much of its woodland to charcoal production, overgrazing and drought. Trees hold soil in place, recharge groundwater, provide shade and fodder, and shield farms and towns from wind and dust.
Green Somalia mobilises government, schools, mosques, businesses and communities in every Federal Member State to plant and care for native and drought-tolerant species — with a national target of 10 million trees.
- Restore degraded rangelands and riverbanks
- Create urban green spaces and shade
- Build community nurseries and green jobs
- Strengthen resilience to drought and floods

Make a pledge
Individuals, schools and organisations can pledge to plant and care for trees. The Green Somalia team will follow up about seedlings, sites and planting days.
